Starfish Principles

The Starfish Group welcomes Creek’s youngest learners, typically 18 months to 2 years old. For many children, this is their very first experience in a group childcare setting, and our goal is to make that transition from home feel gentle, comforting, and secure. We do this by grounding our classroom in the following principles:

  • A small group size ensures each child receives individual attention, connection, and support throughout the day.

  • A predictable daily routine helps children feel safe, confident, and ready to explore.

  • Daily communication with families keeps parents informed and allows us to work together to set meaningful goals for each child.

  • Rich language experiences—stories, songs, conversations, and modeling communication—support children as they learn to express themselves.

  • Encouragement of self‑help skills such as dressing, washing hands, and early toilet learning helps children build confidence and autonomy.

  • A nurturing community environment gives children opportunities to form relationships with both peers and trusted adults.

  • Thoughtfully planned activities allow children to practice and strengthen their developing skills across all areas of growth.

The Starfish Room is designed to be a warm, steady place where our littlest learners can explore, connect, and grow at their own pace.
